Mission

Civic Pulse’s mission is to inform and engage the more than 8 million people that live and work in New York City, and to bolser civic engagement across the five boroughs.

We aim to galvanize changemakers — from laypeople to lawmakers — to support initiatives that contribute to a more affordable, equitable, and economically prosperous New York.

Our storytelling will center the lived experiences of everyday New Yorkers—the very people that make Gotham great. We seek not just to identify critical issues affecting the city, but to find solutions and effect change.

Our reporting will demonstrate our unwavering commitment to the facts, but it won’t come without bias. We believe skepticism — not objectivity — is what makes good journalism, and the very best reporting is that which is rooted in strong perspectives.

We acknowledge our greatest responsibility is to let our readers know who we are, what we do, and where we’re coming from.

Our vision is a New York that has:

  • Effective governance: Government that can be responsive to the public and is capable of delivering high-quality services.

  • Affordable housing: An accessible supply of affordable housing for workers at all income levels

  • World-class transit: Frequent, reliable, and affordable transit in every borough

  • Economic dynamism: A New York that builds state-of-the-art public works and that believes in building for the next generation

We aim to do this by:

  • Elevating stories and ideas that will shape the future of New York City

  • Convenining public members, stakeholders, writers and policy makers who believe in our mission

  • Informing and educating the public to become more civically engaged
