Nerd Night Is Coming to Astoria. And It’s About the Future of Our Streets
Something small—but powerful—is happening in Astoria.
On Monday, May 18, Civic Pulse is teaming up with Open Plans, 31st Ave Open Streets, and 34th Ave Open Streets to host Nerd Night: The Future of Queens Streets at Fresco’s Grand Cantina.
This will be fast-paced talks and community building focused on one thing:
What would it actually take to make our neighborhoods quieter, safer, and more people-first?
We’ll be digging into ideas like Low Traffic Neighborhoods (LTNs), a concept that’s transformed streets in cities like London by reducing cut-through traffic while keeping access for residents, deliveries, and emergency services.
But more than anything, this is about Queens and what’s possible here.
Western Queens already has some of the most active Open Streets in the city. So what’s next?
Can we build on that momentum? Can we rethink how our streets work, not just for cars passing through, but for the people who actually live here?
If you care about safer streets, better public space, or just want to meet others thinking about the future of the neighborhood, come through.
